Gestur Jóhannsson was born in Húnavatnssýsla in 1850. Died in 1939. His wife was Ósk Sveinsdóttir born, 1956. Their children were Jónína Margrét b. 1884 and Jóhann b. 1886. Gestur and Ósk moved west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1887 and settled in Selkirk. Moved from there a few years later and settled in Poplar Park. Gestur published a book of poems Ljóðmæli í Selkirk in 1900.
