This is the third volume in the VFÍ Series. The publication traces the background to the establishment of the University's Faculty of Industry and the Icelandic Research Council in the 1930s. It also discusses the industrial research institutes that emerged from the Faculty of Industry: the Marine Research Institute, the Industrial Technology Institute, the Construction Industry Research Institute, the Fisheries Research Institute and the Agricultural Research Institute, as well as the Energy Agency, which was formed from the office of the Director of Electricity.
