In the Morgunblaðið's Reading List of May 1, 1954, Professor Halldór Hermannsson discusses the book. There Halldór says: "The author of this book is well known to Icelanders, for he has long been engaged in educating his countrymen about Icelandic matters, and this book of his shows how thoroughly he has become acquainted with the Icelandic language at a certain period, the 16th century, when Icelanders began to devote themselves to translating foreign works on a larger scale than before. It can hardly be said that they succeeded particularly well, and they often had to take foreign words and give them a more or less Icelandic form. In the introduction to the book, the author gives an overview of foreign influences on the language before and during the period he writes about, what can be considered borrowed words, and gives a list of prefixes and suffixes of such words. This is followed by a dictionary of borrowed words and where they can be found in books of this period and from where they may have been taken. Of course, the vast majority of these words have now disappeared from the language. This is a most valuable book, and in all respects well written. "gone from her."
