Magnus Hirschfeld (1868–1935) was a German physician and gay rights activist who ran a progressive sexology institute in Berlin in the early 20th century.
The book details Hirschfeld's life and work and the struggles of the queer movement in its early days, both in the East and the West. It also provides a good insight into the diverse human life, liberalism and progressivism that lived well in Weimar Germany but was crushed with the Nazi takeover.
