The Moon Tower. Poem by Else Lasker-Schüler. Translated by Hannes Pétursson.
A single-cut diamond
I dreamed to the end
in your face my starry sky.
I gave you all
my many nicknames,
and I laid my hand
under your heel,
like with that I paid
my path to another life.
Constantly crying now
from heaven your mother,
first I cut out a picture of myself
in the flesh of your heart
and love so hot
you rush away on whims.
It is dark now –
only flickers
the light of my soul.
A single-cut diamond
I dreamed to the end
in your face my starry sky.
I gave you all
my many nicknames,
and I laid my hand
under your heel,
like with that I paid
my path to another life.
Constantly crying now
from heaven your mother,
first I cut out a picture of myself
in the flesh of your heart
and love so hot
you rush away on whims.
It is dark now –
only flickers
the light of my soul.
