A man of modern times. Autobiographies of Guðmundur H. Garðarsson. Recorded by Björn Jón Bragason.
Guðmundur H. Garðarsson is a man of modern times. He is a descendant of the great social changes that occurred during the occupation of Iceland and became an innovator in many fields. At a young age, he became familiar with pension issues in Britain and fought for reforms in that area in Iceland.
For years he was one of the main advocates of Western cooperation in this country. Guðmundur worked at the Sales Center of the Cold Storage Companies for almost four decades and was chairman of the Reykjavík Chamber of Commerce for 23 years. He was for a time one of the main leaders of the Icelandic Confederation of Trade Unions, was a member of the Althing for years, a representative on the negotiating committee on the extension of the fishing jurisdiction to 200 miles, and was the first person to introduce a bill in the Althing on freedom of the media.
The author of the book is Björn Jón Bragason, a lawyer and historian. He is pursuing a doctoral degree. He has written three historical books and numerous academic articles.
