More light! Lecture held in Eyrarbakki and Stokkseyri in March 1899 by Sir Ólafur Ólafsson at Arnarbæl.
Sir Ólafur asks his audience; What is the most powerful force in Iceland? Is it money? Education? Humanity? Oh no, oh no. It is Stupidity ! He says "The Icelandic people have forced me to believe that stupidity is the most powerful force in Iceland". Ólafur is not particularly fond of those in power and does not greet them well. Thus he calls the Queen stupid, the Prime Minister "hopeless", the Minister of Finance "Discouraged", the Minister of Church and Employment "Spiritual Sleep", the Minister of Justice "The Judge of the Law", the Minister of Transport "Disunity or whatever one likes".
Sira Ólafur then introduces the Charter of the Wise . The first article reads as follows: - Spirits are one of the nation's first necessities, no man should look at the króna if spirits are available, for it is the true foundation of all pleasure and all human joy.
This is a well-read copy and has been sewn into the keel with a needle and thread.
