Between mountain and shore. Humorous poems and occasional verses by Jón Jens Kristjánsson, Ytri-Hjarðardalur in Önundarfjörður.
Jón Jens Kristjánsson in Ytri-Hjarðardalur is the regional poet of Önfirðinga. For decades, Guðmundur Ingi Kristjánsson, a poet at Kirkjuból in Bjarnardalur, wrote a sveinarannala (a boyhood chronicle), but when he was well into his nineties, he entrusted Jón with taking over. It is no secret from reading this little poem that Guðmundur Ingi knew what he was singing about when he appointed this man his successor and rejuvenated him in office by almost sixty years. Jón is light and playful in his poetry, adept at the humorous and melodious, incorporating it into the form almost effortlessly.
Several friends of Jón Jens Kristjánsson campaigned to have his poetry published. Regardless of the occasion, his poems and verses are a delicacy for those who love good poetry, the Icelandic language, and unadulterated humor. (Cover text).
