Memories from Hornafjörður. Guðrún Guðmundsdóttir tells of her upbringing in Hornafjörður. With explanatory articles and a book supplement by Vilmundur Jónsson, Medical Director. Þórhallur Vilmundarson was responsible for the publication.
Guðrún Guðmundsdóttir was born in Miðsker in Nesjar in Hornafjörður in 1863 and lived in Nesjar until 1890, when she moved to Seyðisfjörður. The first part of the book contains her memories of Hornafjörður from these years, descriptions of folk life and personalities. The second part of the book contains sixty Hornafjörður folktales that Guðrún has recorded, all connected to peculiar ways of speaking. Vilmundur Jónsson, the medical director, has written extensive articles on the memories and folktales, and they are published in a separate chapter. Finally, as an appendix, Vilmundur's account of a trip through the historical sites of the book in the summer of 1935 is included.
