A different sheep in many flocks. A small historical work about many things worth noting. Author Eiríkur Ólafsson in Reykjavík, formerly a former farmer in Brún.
Eiríkur Ólafsson á Brúnum was an Icelandic farmer and Mormon. He is most famous for his travelogues and story episodes that were published in one book in the mid-20th century. Eiríkur á Brúnum is the model for Halldór Laxness at Steinari in Hlíðar under Steinahlíðar in his novel Paradísarheimt.
Eiríkur lived at Brún under the Eyjafjöll mountains for 23 years. In his last years as a farmer, in 1876, he took a trip to Copenhagen to look around and perhaps also to meet a fine horse that Prince Valdimar had received from him when he was on a trip here accompanied by his father the king two years earlier. Eiríkur moved to Ártún in Mosfellssveit in 1887. There he converted to Mormonism and went to Utah in the United States in 1881 and stayed there for 8 years. He was then sent back here once as a missionary and was then poorly received. Eiríkur left the Mormon faith in 1889 and then moved back to Iceland and died in Reykjavík in 1900.
