Andrés Stefánsson Johnson was born in Leifsstaðir in Selárdalur in North Múlasýsla in 1885. At the age of eighteen he moved to the West. There he studied and worked as a barber until he moved back home to Iceland in 1916. Andrés settled in Hafnarfjörður and lived there ever since. Andrés worked at his trade in Hafnarfjörður until 1947. Andrés was interested in Icelandic relics and heritage preservation and set up a museum in his home which he called Ásbúð.
