Bárður Jákupsson was born on December 23, 1943 in Tórshavn and is a Faroese painter and writer.
Bárður was born in Havn in 1943, he is the son of the famous Faroese writer Heðin Brú (Hans Jacob Jacobsen) and Katrina Malena Dalsgaard. In 1967 he married Kristin Hervør Lützen from Gjógv. They live in Hoyvík and have three sons: Róaldur (1974), Sveinur (1976) and Heðin (1980).
He studied to be a teacher and after that he attended the art school Kunstakademiet in Keypmannahavn 1970-1972. Then he became a teacher at Føroya Folk University, and from 1975-89 he was the director of the Art Gallery in Havn, from 1989 to 2003 he was the director of the Føroya Art Museum.
Some writers, he writes especially about Faroese art. He has been on lecture tours in Denmark, Sweden, Åland, Finland and Greenland. He was the editor of the periodical "Mondul" (Føroya Fornminnissavn ed.) 1975-1991, has written many articles on moral and historical matters in Mondli; Organized and organized 15 ethical exhibitions on Faroese art, among others at the Smithsonian Institute, Washington DC and Seattle 1976, "Færøerne i Fokus", Forum Kph. 1986 and "Färöarna på Skansen", Stockholm 1988. He was a guest speaker at "Hunters of the North", Norðurlandahúsið, etc. 2002. In 2005, he was curator at "TransForm" (Icelandic-Grønlandish-Føroysk forgeving) at the Norðurbryggjun in Cape Mannahavn in 2005. He was a co-curator at Weilbachs Kunstnerleksikon 1994-2000. In 2001-02, he hosted a TV talk on 11 channels about Faroese art.
