On the occasion of Svavar Sigmundsson's seventieth birthday on September 7, 2009, the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies decided to publish a birthday book in his honor with a selection of articles he has written for various magazines, conference proceedings, birthday books, and other books.

The publication contains 35 articles in 6 languages ​​(Icelandic, Faroese, Danish, Swedish, English and German). The articles mainly deal with place names and onomastics, but also other branches of Icelandic language and grammar.
