In 1943, Haraldur Björnsson conducted a performance of Kaj Munk's controversial play Niels Ebbesen, which had been confiscated by the German occupation authorities in Denmark. The broadcast of the work, translated by Jón Eyþórsson, was therefore also its premiere.
