Elías Bjarnason was born in Hörgárdalur on Síða in 1879. Pálína Elíasdóttir was born in Syðri-Steinsmýri in Meðalland in 1885. They married in 1904. They first lived in Prestbakki and later in Hunkubakki. They moved to Reykjavík in 1918 where Elías was a teacher and later head teacher at the Reykjavík Primary School in addition to handling the import and repair of musical instruments.
