Nikulás Klím. A novel by Ludvig Holberg. Icelandic translation by Jón Ólafsson from Grunnavík. Jón Helgason prepared the printing.
In the original language: Nicolai Klimii iter subterraneum (Niels Klims subterraneum Rejse).

Jón Ólafsson from Grunnavík translated the story of Nikulás Klím by Holberg in the mid-18th century and it enjoyed popularity in Iceland. The story deals with the journey of the Norwegian student Nikulás Klím to the underworld where he was emperor for a time. The social customs of the underworld are described in detail. What is striking is that the most powerful in society are commoners while the least powerful are nobles. The whole story is not told, because: In the continent of Cockecu, a completely opposite custom prevails. The men handle the cooking and have to take on the most dishonorable tasks. Women, on the other hand, are entrusted with the most important secular, spiritual and military positions. They believed that it should be the order of nature that women should have power, while the men, on the other hand, grind, bake, sweep floors and accept bribes.
