Some poems by Björgvin Halldórsson.
The first and only book by Björgvin Halldórsson. Björgvin was born in Brúsastaðir in Þingvallasveit in 1898. In the spring of 1903 he moved with his parents to Kárastaðir in the same village and spent most of his short life there. At the age of 12 he fell ill with a malignant chest disease and never recovered from it. Björgvin died in Reykjavík in 1920, only 22 years old.
He wrote a lot for his own entertainment, but it was never his intention to keep it up to date. He found some relief in writing poetry when all avenues to career and fame were closed, his great hopes and outstanding talents doomed to destruction. It should therefore come as no surprise that there is a touch of melancholy in some of his poems.
