North of Vatnajökull. Poul Vad tells of his travels. Úlfur Hjörvar Icelandic.
In 1970, the Danish writer and art historian Poul Vad (b. 1927) came to Iceland, drawn there by his acquaintance with Icelanders and especially by Hrafnkell's saga Freysgoði.

He then went alone in a Land Rover through the Hrafnkatla area, but here he takes the reader along on this two-part journey through land and history, with Cervantes and Machiavelli also traveling with him, as many interesting and unexpected things are discussed.

The author further spices up the travelogue with stories of Icelandic contemporaries and modern-day Iceland, which he has visited several times since, most recently as a guest at the Icelandic Literature Festival in 1995.
The book supplement contains a printed version of Hrafnkell's saga, Freysgoði.
