Notes of a Film Director. By Sergei Eisenstein.

Sergei Mikhailovich Eisenstein (January 22, 1898 – February 11, 1948) was a Soviet film director and theorist best known for the silent films Strike, Battleship Potemkin, and October. His theories of filmmaking centered on the use of editing to create meaning by resolving contradictions in the spirit of Hegelian dialectics. By juxtaposing unrelated shots, the viewer could be shocked, making film a revolutionary tool. His writings are still used in film schools around the world.
