Now the night smiles. The memoirs of Guðmundur Einarsson, recorded by Theodór Gunnlaugsson.

Guðmundur Einarsson of Brekka in Ingjaldssandur is considered one of the greatest fox hunters in Iceland, past and present. He is now 87 years old and is not shy about talking candidly about the events of his long and eventful life.

In the introduction, the author says this about his protagonist: "He is the most remarkable man I have met in recent times, and much is said about him. The letters from him, and what accompanied them, have often reminded me of the wise Njál and also of the noble nature of old Ingimund. And his ability, daring and quickness persistently remind me of various heroes of our story. Is it not enough, dear reader, to draw your attention to an Icelandic man of distinction? Later I will find a place for these words of mine.

Theodor has largely composed this autobiography from Guðmundur's letters, but they have corresponded for many years. It is likely that many will be interested in reading this book, not least the chapters that discuss the trade in foxes, where experts discuss the subject. Guðmundur was on a spruce tree almost 2500 times and is one of the most famous fox hunters in this country. Otherwise, this entertaining book covers a lot, although in fragments.
