Nýall is a synonym for the main works of Dr. Helgi Pjeturss that he published between 1919 and 1947. First, Nýall came in three volumes in 1919-1920 and 1922, then Ennýall 1929, Framnýall 1941, Viðnýall 1942, Sannýall 1943 and finally Þónýall 1947. Their content can be divided into three main parts, firstly, articles and essays of general subject matter that appeared in magazines and newspapers at home and abroad, but Helgi left little human matter irrelevant. Secondly, essays on geology, which was his main subject from the beginning of his life, and with others until the end of his life.

The word Nýall means that something new is presented, similar to the word ný(r) and the second part of the word annáll. In the afterword to the first book, Nýall (The discovery of the way out), Dr. Helgi says, among other things: "Nýall is, above all, a scientific book. It builds on everything that has been best in science and philosophy before, and adapts and expands on it in such a way that with it the age of science on earth truly begins."

As previously mentioned, Nýall was published in three issues in 1919-1920 and 1922, published by Bókaverslun Guðmundur Gamalíelssonar. Ennnýall was published in 1929 by Félagsprentsmiðjan, and Bókaútgáfa Guðjón Ó. Guðjónssonar published Framnýal in 1941, Viðnýal in 1942, Sannýal in 1943 and Þónýal in 1947.
