Iceland sent a large contingent to compete at the London Games. Twelve track and field athletes and eight swimmers, three of whom were women. There was talk of sending a soccer team, but it did not happen due to disagreements within the soccer movement. Instead, four soccer players were sent abroad to observe the competition and learn from it.
