Óorð. The book about bad Icelandic words. By Jón Gnarr.
"This book contains a collection of Icelandic words that I think are poor. I call them vulgar and vulgar ...
We should all have opinions about our language and be unafraid to voice them. This book is a contribution to that discussion. In the power of love, I allow myself this rant. Keep it up!"
"This book contains a collection of Icelandic words that I have collected over the years and that I think are poor. I call them fúskyrði and órð."
I also criticize only the flaws that I feel are in the system we use to build and maintain Icelandic. I find it far too masculine. I call that flaw the gender problem. I find the new words that are being coined to be mostly one-liners and many of the words that are being created are not good enough, poorly thought out and useless.
I love my native language with all my heart. I think it's beautiful to create new words from old words. I'm not a hater of diverse synonyms either. But everyone must admit that, for example, the word rental car is a nonsense word.
Icelandic is a good language. It is a precious treasure that we must not lose. Languages always die in silence. We should all have opinions about our language and be unafraid to air them. This book is a contribution to that discussion. It is by the power of love that I allow myself this rant. All the best!” (Cover text).
