With this book by Þorp þer tir á Flateyri, Jóhanna Guðrún Kristjánsdóttir has completed her account of the people and issues in the early days of settlement there on the gravel.
Flateyri was established as a village in the latter half of the 19th century. Like other coastal villages around the country, fishing and processing of the catch, along with providing services to the surrounding countryside, were the basis of the settlement.
The work is based on news material from dispatches written around the turn of the century. They are part of two collections of letters that have been lying in a suitcase and a dresser drawer in Flateyri ever since. (Cover text).
