Lena Grigoleit, b. 1910, a farmer in the Memel region, the easternmost part of what was then East Prussia, describes an incredible life with great sincerity. She lives through two world wars, the collapse of Prussia and exile in Siberia. At the end of the book is an overview of the history of the Memel region and tells the story of the book's genesis.
