Persius rhymes after Guðmundur Andrésson and Bellerofontis rhymes. Jakob Benediktsson prepared the printing.
Guðmundur was born in Bjarg in Miðfjörður. He studied at Hólaskóli but later became a deacon and taught. He soon got into trouble for his poetry, including against Bishop Þorlákir Skúlason, and wrote the essay Discursus oppositionis against Stóradóm. For this he was arrested and taken to Copenhagen by Henrik Bjelke, a captain. In Copenhagen, Guðmundur was placed in Bláturn but was later pardoned by the king on December 24, 1649 for the words of Ole Worm.
A year later he was admitted to the University of Copenhagen. In the years 1650-54 he wrote the Icelandic dictionary Lexicon Islandicum, with Latin annotations. It was published in Copenhagen in 1683. The dictionary is considered a significant source on Icelandic vocabulary in the first half of the 17th century and a milestone in Icelandic dictionary-making. He prepared the printing of Völuspá with annotations, but both of these works were published after his death by Peder Hansen Resen. Guðmundur died in Copenhagen in 1654, the cause of death being cholera.
