From letters from Togo. Written by Elísabet Vestdal. Prepared for printing by Þorsteinn Jósepsson.
Elísabet Marianne Vestdal Jónsdóttir was born in Reykjavík in 1939. Her parents were Marianne Elisabeth Vestdal, born Werner, in 1909 in Dresden, Germany, and Jón Erlendsson Vestdal, a chemical engineer and director of the State Cement Factory in Akranes, later in Reykjavík, from Breiðabólsstaðir in Álftanes.
Elisabeth went to study in Montpellier in 1958 and graduated with a lic-és-lettres in French and English in 1963. She married Roger Abéla, a pharmacist. In 1961, Roger offered to take over the running of the pharmacy in Palimé, Togo. The letters published here were written by Elisabeth to her parents from Togo.
These letters were published in the newspaper Vísi on March 4 and 6, 1963.
