Breeding people and offspring. Biography of Valgerður Halldórsdóttir and Runólfr Sveinsson, school principal and sand reclamation director. Recorded by Friðrik G. Olgeirsson.
The book is both the story of a visionary who contributed to the welfare of the country and its people and the story of a woman who became a widow with three young sons in her early forties. Runólfur had an eleven-year successful career as principal of the Agricultural School in Hvanneyri when he changed his mind and became director of sand reclamation. He was a pioneer in land reclamation, plant protection and various fields of agriculture. Runólfur passed away long before his time, at only 44 years old, but had accomplished an incredible amount. It was then Valgerður's turn to create opportunities for their sons to receive education and development. (Bókatíðindi 2009).
