Gunnar Hersveinn (Sigursteinsson) was born in Reykjavík on March 28, 1960. He grew up in the Voga and Heima neighborhood. He completed a BA in philosophy and psychology in 1986, a journalism degree in 1995, and has pursued a master's degree in gender studies at the University of Iceland.


Gunnar Hersveinn has published four books of poetry, written plays and several books of a general nature, and JPV Publishing has published his books, among others, Gæfuspor – gildin í jiðvinn and Orðspor – gildin i samhæðið. Gunnar has been a journalist for Morgunblaðið and a teacher, for example in upper secondary schools and the Iceland Academy of the Arts.


Gunnar Hersveinn has received various awards for his writings on social issues, including the 2004 Light Bearer Award for articles on education, peace culture, education and ethics, a nomination for the 2004 Journalist Award for writings on human life in the field of equality, education and education, and the 2010 Fjölí Award from the Icelandic Writers' Association for books that have made a significant mark on the national social debate.
