Ármann and Vildís. A novel by Kristmann Guðmundsson.
This story was published by Aschehoug in Oslo in 1928. I was late with the manuscript and the publisher was chasing it. But I was not happy with the work and wanted to rewrite it; on the other hand, Mads Nygaard, another owner and director of Aschehoug, was impressed with the story and did not see the need to work on it any further. It was then published, and received very good reviews and sold well.
But I was convinced that I could do better and so I did not have the book translated into other languages. (It was, however, published in Sweden and elsewhere, without my permission during the war years).
Some time ago I translated it and rewrote it in Icelandic. I still wasn't satisfied, though, so I took the plunge this fall and rewrote it again. So it is now a new book in many ways.
