Ísafold. Travel pictures from Iceland. By Ina von Grumbkow. Haraldur Sigurðsson, an Icelander.
In the summer of 1907, two German geologists, Walther von Knebel and Hans Spethman, came to Iceland. With them was the painter Max Rudloff. They had come here to study Askja. It so happened that Knebel and Rudloff drowned in Lake Askja. Spethmann was away and there was no one to tell about the circumstances of this accident. The following summer, Knebel's fiancée decided to go to Iceland to see if she could find out how this tragic accident happened. She was no stranger to this, but when she returned home, she wrote a book about her trip. This is a uniquely human account of her travels through the wastelands of Iceland.
