This is the beginning of this story, that there was a man named Thorbjorn. He was the son of Thjóðrek. He lived in Ísafjörður on a farm called Laugaból. He had a reputation for godliness in Ísafjörður. He was a man of great lineage and a great chieftain and the greatest man of inequality, so that no men there in Ísafjörður had the strength to say anything against him. He took daughters of men or cousins and kept them by his side for a while and then sent them home. For some he took up estates or drove them away from his possessions.
