A History of Philosophy. By Bryan Magee. Translated by Robert Jack.
The book sheds light on the main topics of philosophy, focuses on the fundamentals of human existence, and describes all of the most important philosophers of the Western world and their key works.

Among the philosophical issues addressed are questions such as "What is free will?" and "Can the existence of God be proven?" The author opens up the world of ideas so that it is easily understandable to everyone and also places the lives and work of the philosophers in a historical context.

Professor Bryan Magee studied at Oxford University and graduated in history, but also in philosophy, political science and economics. He taught at Yale University until 1956, when he left academia to become a writer, critic and journalist.

Professor Magee returned to university teaching in 1970 and is now a Visiting Professor at King's College London. His many writings include Modern British Philosophy, Popper, The Philosophy of Schopenhauer and he has also made two television series, Men of Ideas and The Great Philosophers.
