Sagnadansar are epic medieval dance poems that were sung in Iceland during group dances or round dances centuries ago. Sagnadansar, which are actually a pan-European heritage, became very popular in the Nordic countries and are still alive and well in the Faroe Islands. In the Faroe Islands, sagnadansar are simply called "kveði". In Iceland, sagnadansar are also often known as vikivakar, but they should not be confused with so-called vikivakaði, as such dance poems are lyrical.
The authors of the poems are almost invariably unknown, but the poems have parallels in the Nordic countries, Britain and elsewhere. There is little rhyme except in the adverb, but vowel half-rhymes are common.
