The Iceman. The fateful voyage of Karluk in 1913. By Jennifer Niven. Translated by Rúnar Helgi Vignisson.
In 1913, explorer Vilhjálmur Stefánsson led an ambitious expedition north into the Arctic Ocean. On June 17 of that year, the ship Karluk set sail from Canada. Six weeks later, the Arctic winter hit, the ship was covered in ice, and the expedition leader was lost.

For five months, the ship drifted across the Arctic Ocean before breaking up and sinking. The crew and expedition members were stranded on the ice in the middle of winter, and incredible hardships ensued, revealing the true nature of each individual.

Using the castaways' diaries, Jennifer Niven has recreated the events of this fateful expedition and the desperate attempts of the castaways to return home from the wasteland of the North. Those who survived were never reunited.
