Reverend Sigtryggur Guðlaugsson was born on September 27, 1862, at Þröm in Garðsárdalur in Eyjafjörður. He came to Núp in 1905, newly widowed, and took up the priesthood there after having been pastor of the Ljósavatnspristakall from 1899 to 1905 at Þóroddstaðarkirkja. In addition to serving as pastor and later provost, he was principal of the Junior High School at Núp from its founding in 1907 to 1929.
