Victory at Last. The Autobiography of Rev. Sigurður Ólafsson.
Sigurður Ólafsson was born at Ytra-Hól in Landeyjar in August 1883 and grew up there with his parents, who lived there. He was the eldest of a large group of siblings and had to work at home from an early age. Sigurður was young when he developed a desire to pursue an education . He then began working outside the home and went to sea in the hope of being able to pay for his studies. When Sigurður was considered likely to succeed in his studies, he set off west, barely twenty years old. He began working there with great diligence and devoted himself to studies. He completed his theology degree in 1914 and was ordained a priest the following year.
He immediately entered the service of the Church of Icelanders in the West, and remained so throughout his life. In his early years he was a home missionary pastor on the Pacific Coast and later pastor of the Blaine Presbytery. He served the Gimli Presbytery from 1921 - 1929, then Árborg-Riverton from 1929 - 1940, and finally in Selkirk from 1940 - 1957, when he resigned.
