Here is the story of the upbringing and life of a boy from Mýrdalur. His future dreams were to become a farmer, preferably with a teaching job in the field of medicine. The reality turned out to be different because he was encouraged to study, which led him to medicine and he became one of the most skilled surgeons in the country of his time. After studying and working in the United States, he was fortunate enough to land a coveted position at Landakotsspítali, where he had a successful career for decades.
As life offers, great victories were won but often there were setbacks in between – because life is not always a bed of roses. Sigurgeir experienced great strides in his profession and was the first Icelandic doctor to adopt several of them. He had a good family but lost his wife in the prime of life and suffered a fatal accident when he was about to retire. There is also a relationship from a young age that became a blessing to him later in life.
