The Silent Tale of Sigurður has been one of the most popular tales in the category of chivalric tales, and there are over 60 manuscripts containing it. The oldest manuscript is AM 596 4to (from the 14th century), and the text of the tale is shorter in it than in younger manuscripts.
"And after this he lay down beside her and made her body straight and warm and now took her with force, and she was very much astonished at how joyful his body was to the touch, and how strongly she was handled; and now she was completely robbed of that which she could never get back, which was her virginity. Now when the night was very late and the lady had become hot, both from the love affairs and because the weather began to improve, then sleep returned to the queen and she fell fast asleep."
