Kári Tryggvason was born in Víðikeri in Bárðardalur in July 1905. Kári studied at the Breiðumýri Junior High School 1923-24, Akureyri Secondary School 1924-25, and Laugar District School (ed) 1925-26. He was a farmer in Víðikeri in Bárðardalur 1928-54 and a teacher in the Bárðdælaskóli district for the same period. He was a teacher and supervisor at the primary and secondary school in Hveragerði 1954-70. Kári was chairman of the Bárðdælas medical association for a while, on the district committee for several years, chairman of a reading club, etc.
Kári wrote articles for Náttúrufræðinginn etc. magazines. He wrote about 20 children's books and poetry books during his writing career. His first book was a book of poetry for children, Fuglinn fljujandi, which was published in 1943. His first children's book, Dísa á Grænalækur, was published in 1951. In 1974, Kári received an award from the Reykjavík Education Council for the children's book Úlla horfir á heimin.
