The Creation of Njálssaga. By Sigurður Sigurmundsson from Hvítárholt.
The authors of the Icelandic Sagas have, as is well known, not left their names. It is human nature to seek the unknown. Here, Njálssaga is the subject, the great work of art, one of the pinnacles of world literature. Many authors have been nominated.
As the title of this book suggests, this is an attempt to provide a glimpse into the 13th-century society and the eroded nature of European literary culture from which the story originated. Here it is linked to the name of one of the most powerful rulers of the latter half of the 13th century. But he, more than anyone else, had the potential to fulfill the criteria that scholars have set out in their search for an author.
The content of the book will not be discussed further here, except to mention that it discusses one of the most famous speeches in history in a different way than has been done before.
