The book is over 500 pages long with numerous photographs, including of many of the people Maurer met on his journey.
In his foreword to the travelogue, Professor Páll Sigurðsson, former president of the Icelandic Travel Association, says: "Konrad Maurer played the greatest role of all foreigners in the advance and victories of our struggle for independence in the century that followed, was an innovator and driving force behind scientific folklore collection in this country, one of the main pioneers of modern research into Icelandic ancient sagas, and also the most active and meticulous scholar who has ever devoted himself to Icelandic legal history."
This publication is commissioned by the Icelandic Travel Association on the occasion of its seventieth anniversary on November 27, 1997.
