Mylius-Erichsen was the leader of a group of young and brave men who sailed on the ship Denmark to explore the beautiful shores of Northeast Greenland. Previously, the ambitious Mylius-Erichsen had gone on an expedition to Greenland, and again the wilderness called him with a mysterious force, but this time to conquer - and fall. He died on the Greenland glacier, along with two of his companions; effigies have been erected of them both in Copenhagen and in Greenland, and dead explorers can choose no better fate than a reputation that never dies.
This is a nuanced story about explorers who were willing to sacrifice their lives for their ideals, science, and their homeland. Mylius was only forty-five when he was chosen, but the scientific achievements of his expedition were great. (Cover text)
