Icelandic Cultural Weekend. A speech on the television issue, substantially identical to a speech delivered at a general meeting of the Student Council of the University of Iceland in Sigtún on April 20, 1964, transcribed for broadcast on the radio, but rejected by the Radio Council with a unanimous agreement at a meeting on May 5 to drop all discussions on the television issue - for the time being. By Þórhall Vilmundarson.
Þórhallur Vilmundarson was a staunch opponent of Canadian television and indeed of foreign influence. He fears greatly for the fate of Icelandic culture and that foreign influence will spoil Icelandic cultural sanctity . He cites a number of examples here that demonstrate how much American influence has corrupted the culture and language of other nations.
