Reverend Jónas Jónasson from Hrafnagil was a pastor for a quarter of a century in Grund in Eyjafjörður and a teacher in Akureyri for a long time. In addition, he was a keen writer and corresponded in Iceland and abroad. In 1915, he was responsible for collecting information on folk customs, traditions, beliefs and customs in Iceland. The results of the collection were published in the book Icelandic Folk Customs, which was first published in 1934. Here is the third edition of this important foundational work on the subject.
