Sigurður H.Sigurðursson (1874-1948) is a Húnvetningur, born in Ytra-Hóli in Vindhælishreppur. Smalinn is a novel, set towards the end of the 19th century. Maggi is the son of a widow in Breiðuvík, a small village in North Iceland. Maggi goes to Hóli as a smalin and encounters human trials there. He then goes on a season on a shark boat. There he encounters adventures and life-threatening dangers. Later he takes a ship's captain's exam in England and then returns home where Sigga is waiting for him but she is nowhere to be found!
