Jakobína Sigurðardóttir (1918–1994) was born in Hælavík in Hornstrandir but spent most of her life as a housewife in Garður in the Mývatn region. She was one of the country's most respected writers and published novels, short stories and poetry. Three of her novels, Dægurvísa, Snaran and Livandi vatnín, were selected as Iceland's contribution to the Nordic Council Literature Prize.
