Stories and poems by Guðmundur Haraldsson.
Guðmundur Haraldsson was born in Merkisteini in Eyrarbakki on May 4, 1918. His parents were Haraldur Guðmundsson from Stóra-Háeyri in Eyrarbakki, a descendant of Þorleif the Rich in Háeyri, and his wife, Þuríður Magnúsdóttir from Árgilsstöðir in Rangárþing. Guðmundur was a sailor and laborer until he was over fifty, when he became a writer and published various works with episodes, stories and poems. Guðmundur Haraldsson died in Reykjavík in 1995.
The murder of Gudmundur by Haraldsson
Gudmundur has fine qualities,
A flood of intelligence from your eyes.
His poems are pure as linen,
and smooth as fine wine.
Gudmundur with a crown of rays,
an intellectual of this country.
Its sector-breaking brands
points to the devil's side.
Gvendur always makes a good living,
sparkles in the hand of a style weapon wielded.
Many a swan has sung,
and usually sleeps with them.
Although Gudmundur is a lazy person,
and flames in deep, twisted wounds.
The warrior never wavers.
He happily pinches the wine's tears.
When the poet grabbed a glass,
The crowd was happy.
But if he gets into a persistent struggle,
slaves read an angry letter.
I will now finish composing poetry,
A birch tree leaves on the poet's hillside,
May gentle prosperity surround you,
my friend at all times.
Gudm. Ágústsson.
