Anna Þorsteinsdóttir was born in Óseyri near Stöðvarfjörður in 1915, the daughter of Guðríður Guttormsdóttir and Þorsteinn Mýrmann. She attended the Housewives' School in Hallormsstaður from the age of 15 to 21 and taught for a total of 20 years, mainly in Breiðdalur. Her husband was Reverend Kristinn Hóseason, who was a pastor and dean in Heydálar for 40 years.
