The stories about Þórgný mostly take place in Viking times, but they do run back and forth in time and space and between different worlds, and that is precisely what makes them so adventurously entertaining. The material is largely based on Norse mythology, our old gods play a large role in the story and determine the fate of the protagonists. The Viking chieftain Leifur Haraldsson and his men find a strange capsule in the floodplain. Inside it is a corn child, a little boy. Leifur immediately names the boy Þórgný Ægisson in honor of the gods Þór and Ægir, who he believes saved them from danger at sea. Þórgný grows up among the Vikings but senses that he is different. He longs to find out his origins. (Bókatíðindi 2007).
